The Vice City sign in Miami cost $975,000: the numbers behind the deal
Forbes reveals the figures behind the Vice City sign on the Kaseya Center: $975,000 paid to Miami-Dade, $25,000 under the threshold that would have forced a commission vote, and an airport takeover proposal that was rejected.
We already covered the giant Vice City sign on the Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat. Now Forbes has published the numbers behind the deal, and they are as striking as the installation itself.
The sign cost $975,000, paid to Miami-Dade County. The figure is no accident: it lands exactly $25,000 under the one-million-dollar threshold that would have forced a county commission vote. By staying below it, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava was able to approve it directly.
Key facts about the installation, hoisted into place by helicopter on September 22:
- About 4,690 square feet (roughly 436 m²) of signage on the arena roof.
- A supporting steel structure of about 21,000 pounds (over 9.5 metric tons); the heaviest letter segment weighs nearly 4,950 pounds.
- Angled to be visible from planes landing at Miami International Airport and during Heat broadcasts.
- It will stay up until April 11, 2027, the Heat’s final home game of the season.
Not everything went through. According to Forbes, Rockstar had also proposed events and a takeover of Miami International Airport rebranded as “Vice City Airport”, but the Miami sheriff’s office declined, citing the game’s depiction of violence against law enforcement. Miami Beach turned down other proposals, while the city of Miami did vote to allow oversized promotional banners.
The outdoor campaign is just one part of the marketing push eight weeks out from the November 19 launch, which already includes ads in public spaces across several cities worldwide.
How the billboard first appeared
GTA VI’s physical marketing is starting to show in the city that inspired the game. Aerial images posted on social media by content creator Joel Franco appear to show a large sign being installed on top of the Kaseya Center, Miami’s downtown arena.
According to indy100, the sign reads “Welcome to Vice City” alongside the “VI” from the game’s official logo, and the photos show the structure at different stages of assembly.
There is no official confirmation from Rockstar or the arena, so we treat this as a rumor with photographic evidence. If confirmed, it would be the game’s first major outdoor advertising push and a direct nod: the Kaseya Center sits in downtown Miami, the area Vice City recreates.
Launch day on November 19 is exactly two months away, the typical window in which Rockstar switches on its outdoor advertising.
