Rockstar reveals six GTA VI radio stations and their hosts
The official site shows Cocoteo FM, Back Country Radio, AfroBank FM, The Chamber, Flash FM and Dirty South Classics. Press reports name Bad Bunny, Lana Del Rey, Robyn and Burna Boy among the hosts.
Rockstar updated the official GTA VI site today with a music section. It presents six in-game radio stations, each with a short description and its hosts, and lets visitors hear a preview of several of them. The page itself says GTA VI will have the series’ “biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet”, with stations from classic rock to talk radio.
The six stations
The official site describes them like this, using the hosts’ in-game names:
- Cocoteo FM: modern Latin music, with El Martillo and La Gata.
- Back Country Radio: “renegade” country, with MW and Delta Dawne.
- AfroBank FM: amapiano, African classics and 3-step, with Burna and Palmsy.
- The Chamber: metal from the 80s and beyond, with DJ Kerry and DJ Tom.
- Flash FM: pop, with Robyn and Alex.
- Dirty South Classics: regional rap and classic hip-hop, with Trick and Trina.
Who is behind the voices
The Rockstar page we could read does not list the artists’ real names. Rockstar’s announcement, reproduced by Gaming Age, says who voices each host, and Rolling Stone and Pitchfork report the same names. We could not read the original announcement on Rockstar’s site, only its quoted text:
- Cocoteo FM: Bad Bunny and fellow Puerto Rican artist RaiNao.
- Back Country Radio: Morgan Wallen and Lana Del Rey. Del Rey’s husband, Jeremy Dufrene, voices Mud Dog Mike, the station’s roving reporter and swamp meteorologist, who checks in from his airboat.
- AfroBank FM: Burna Boy and DJ Palms Trax.
- The Chamber: Kerry King and Tom Araya of Slayer.
- Flash FM: Robyn and model and actress Alex Consani.
- Dirty South Classics: Trick Daddy and Trina.
Pitchfork also quotes RaiNao, who says Cocoteo captures “our vibe, our slang, our taste, our pride”.
On-demand podcasts
According to the announcement quoted by Gaming Age, and also by The Verge, GTA VI introduces a series of on-demand podcasts for Jason and Lucia for the first time in the series. Radio and podcasts can be played in vehicles and on foot, through headphones connected to the character’s phone. We have not yet seen which podcasts will exist.
Songs mentioned
The same text gives examples for each station. On Cocoteo FM, “EoO” by Bad Bunny. On Back Country Radio, “The Conversation” by Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings. On The Chamber 106.6, “Raining Blood” by Slayer. These are samples, not the full track list.
What is not stated
These are six featured stations, not the full list: the announcement also mentions classic rock, modern hip-hop, dance, electronic, blues, ballads, 80s and talk radio. Rockstar has not published the full track list or clarified how this relates to the “next evolution of radio” it announced with the album.
The 34-track album arrives on November 19, the same day as the game, and the official site already offers six singles.
