GTA 5 passes 230 million copies sold, Zelnick confirms
Take-Two's CEO dropped the figure at the annual shareholder meeting: GTA V has sold more than 230 million units since 2013 and stayed a top-five seller for 13 years. This is the context GTA VI arrives in.
Thirteen years after launch, GTA 5 is still breaking records. At Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting, Strauss Zelnick confirmed the game has sold more than 230 million units since 2013 and that, unlike almost any other title, it stayed a top-five seller for 13 years.
The figure came up in a question about monetization: Zelnick reiterated that GTA VI’s launch, being a single-player experience on two platforms, carries no anticipated recurrent consumer spending, and pointed to GTA 5 as proof that “the single-player experience can be very successful, to say the least.”
The number cements GTA 5 as one of the best-selling entertainment products ever, behind only Minecraft among video games. It also explains Take-Two’s strategy: keep GTA Online alive while GTA VI takes off, and shut nothing down “and beyond” November 19.

GTA VI vs GTA 5: every confirmed difference
Thirteen years separate GTA 5 from GTA VI: from three protagonists to two (with the first playable woman of the HD era), from Los Santos to an entire state where Vice City alone would double the old map, and from $59.99 to $79.99. GTA 5 keeps growing though: 230 million copies.
